CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that Apple will launch new retail locations in India later this year

Apple is set to continue its retail expansion in India with the opening of new stores later this year, marking phase two of its growth strategy in the country. Currently, the company operates two physical stores, but this number will soon increase as four more stores are planned for major cities, including Pune, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The move comes as part of Apple's ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in India, a market where the company has seen remarkable growth.

The announcement was made during Apple’s fiscal Q2 2025 earnings call, where CEO Tim Cook highlighted the company’s global achievements, including records in various markets, notably India. Tim Cook also confirmed the retail expansion, mentioning the new stores in India alongside upcoming launches in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While the exact locations of the new Indian stores haven't been disclosed yet, it’s clear that Apple is prioritizing expanding its physical retail presence in key urban centers.

Apple’s journey in India began with the launch of its online store in 2020, followed by the opening of the first physical stores in Mumbai (BKC) and Delhi (Saket) in April 2023. These stores have received a great response from customers, showcasing the demand for a more hands-on approach to shopping for Apple’s premium devices. The company also introduced the Apple Store app India edition in January 2024, catering to the growing demand for its products and services online.

In addition to retail, Apple’s manufacturing base in India has become crucial to the company’s global strategy. The shift to manufacturing more iPhones in India was driven by the need to stay competitive amid global trade tensions and tariffs, particularly with China. Apple has confirmed that the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. are now made in India, a significant move that reduces reliance on Chinese manufacturing. This move is in line with Apple's broader strategy to diversify its manufacturing locations, with Vietnam also playing a key role in the production of other devices like iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches.

As of 2025, Apple manufactures the entire iPhone 16 lineup locally in India, including the entry-level iPhone 16e and the high-end iPhone 16 Pro models. It is expected that the upcoming iPhone 17 series will also be produced in India. This shift represents a strategic pivot for Apple, enabling the company to mitigate the impact of tariffs imposed on Chinese-made products while meeting demand in key markets.

In terms of financial performance, Apple reported a revenue of $95.4 billion for Q2 2025, marking a 5% year-over-year increase. Earnings per share rose by 8% to $1.65. While Apple did not provide specific numbers for the performance of its latest product launches, including the iPhone 16e and refreshed iPads and Macs, the company saw significant growth in its services sector, which includes iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple TV Plus. Apple's installed base of active devices reached an all-time high across all regions and product lines during the quarter, further underscoring its continued growth.

The company's robust growth in India, combined with its expanding retail presence and increasing local manufacturing, positions Apple well for continued success in the region, as it strengthens its foothold in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing markets.
