Dream coming true: PM Modi refers to Amaravati as the cornerstone of Andhra's ambitions

During a landmark event marking the foundation-laying ceremony of Amaravati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful and visionary speech, framing the city not just as a new capital but as a cornerstone of Andhra Pradesh’s resurgence. He called Amaravati a “Shakti” — a force of energy and transformation — and described it as a “dream turning into reality,” signaling the city's symbolic and strategic importance in shaping the state's future.

PM Modi emphasized that Amaravati represents the collective aspirations of the people of Andhra Pradesh. Far from being merely a city under construction, it is envisioned as a hub of technological innovation, green energy, industrial development, and youth-driven progress. He painted a picture of Amaravati as a future-ready city that would lead India in sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable infrastructure. This aspirational tone was complemented by a concrete promise: the central government would support the project with “record speed”, ensuring no delay in translating the vision into tangible development.

A significant portion of Modi’s speech was dedicated to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), known for his technological foresight and governance acumen. PM Modi recalled how, during his early tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, he had observed and learned from Naidu’s leadership in Hyderabad, particularly in the context of IT and urban development. Referring to Naidu as someone whose expertise in handling mega projects and embracing future technology is “unparalleled,” Modi made it clear that he sees Naidu as a key partner in building a prosperous Andhra Pradesh. “If there is someone who knows how to do large-scale development in a short time, it’s Chandrababu Naidu,” Modi stated, expressing strong confidence in his ally’s capabilities.

The Prime Minister also reached out to the emotional and cultural legacy of the Telugu people by paying tribute to Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), the legendary former Chief Minister and TDP founder. Modi invoked NTR’s dream of a self-reliant and thriving Andhra Pradesh, linking it to the contemporary vision for Amaravati. He called upon Naidu, actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, and the broader leadership of the state to come together and fulfill this vision. “We only have to do it,” Modi said with emphasis, urging unity and determination in the mission of building Amaravati as the growth engine of a “Viksit Bharat” — a developed India.

Reinforcing his broader development narrative, PM Modi highlighted how India has made rapid strides over the last decade under his leadership, positioning itself among the top global economies. He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is now witnessing a “new chapter in connectivity”, with a focus on enhancing infrastructure — from rail and road projects to interlinking cities, mandals, and neighboring states. He underlined that such investments will unlock new economic opportunities and improve quality of life for all residents.

In essence, Modi’s address was not only a political endorsement of the Amaravati project and its leadership but also a roadmap for the transformation of Andhra Pradesh into a forward-looking, tech-savvy, and economically dynamic state. By weaving together personal anecdotes, cultural reverence, and national ambition, the speech aimed to galvanize public support and reassert the Centre’s commitment to the state's progress.
