In the aftermath of the recent military confrontation with Pakistan and the high-impact Operation Sindoor, India is preparing to launch a major diplomatic outreach to bolster international support for its stance. A multi-party delegation of Members of Parliament (MPs) will soon embark on a global tour to brief key foreign governments on the Pahalgam terror attack, India’s retaliatory action, and its broader counter-terrorism position.
Sources have confirmed that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is coordinating this international outreach, which is scheduled to begin shortly after May 22. The outreach will involve several small delegations—each comprising 5–6 MPs—visiting different countries, including:
-
United States
-
United Kingdom
-
South Africa
-
Qatar
-
United Arab Emirates
Senior MPs, predominantly from the ruling NDA, have been selected to lead these delegations, although participation spans across party lines to project a united Indian front on the global stage.
The initiative comes in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-based militants. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, a precision military action targeting terror camps deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistan’s retaliatory drone attacks on Indian cities and military installations led to four tense days that brought the two nations to the brink of war. A de-escalation agreement was reached on May 10 following top-level military talks.
In parallel to the military response, India has taken strong diplomatic steps against Pakistan, which include:
-
Cancellation of visas for Pakistani nationals
-
Downsizing diplomatic missions
-
Closure of land borders and airspace
-
Suspension of trade and economic ties
-
Freezing of the Indus Waters Treaty
The Indian government also convened an all-party meeting to brief political leaders on the conflict. During this meeting, the opposition extended full support to the government’s actions, signaling rare political unity on national security. Simultaneously, India reached out to several foreign ministries and top global officials to build international consensus around its counter-terrorism measures.
The upcoming MP-led diplomatic tour is a part of that broader campaign, aimed at reinforcing India’s narrative globally, isolating Pakistan diplomatically, and seeking broader endorsement of India's right to self-defence against cross-border terrorism.
