The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that it will pay a special tribute to the Indian armed forces during the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). This was confirmed by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia in an exclusive statement to India Today. The tribute is in recognition of the extraordinary valour and dedication shown by the armed forces during Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 as a precise and strategic military action targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was a direct response to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent civilians. The operation demonstrated the armed forces’ commitment to safeguarding national security and delivering justice.
To honour the bravery, courage, and selfless service of the soldiers who undertook this mission, the BCCI has decided to dedicate the entire IPL 2025 closing ceremony to the nation’s heroes. Devajit Saikia emphasized the significance of this gesture, stating, “BCCI salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation.”
He further added, “While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country.” This tribute during one of India’s most widely watched sporting events reflects the deep respect and gratitude the country holds for its armed forces, highlighting their sacrifices and the vital role they play in maintaining peace and security.
