IPL Eliminator: Sai Sudharsan makes a spectacular relay catch against MI to turn goalie

That Gujarat Titans catch combo by Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee was absolutely electric and came at a crucial moment in the IPL 2025 Eliminator against Mumbai Indians. It happened in the 8th over when Jonny Bairstow was in full flow, threatening to take MI to a commanding position.

Bairstow went for a flashy reverse sweep off Sai Kishore, connecting well but sending the ball flatter and wider than planned toward backward point. Sai Sudharsan’s reflexes were on point—he launched himself full stretch to his left and managed to get a fingertip deflection, almost like a goalkeeper tipping a shot just wide. Instead of letting the ball fall, Sudharsan cleverly redirected it upwards.

That’s when Gerald Coetzee, positioned at short third, reacted instantly. Charging in with determination, he took the catch smoothly, sending Bairstow back and triggering loud celebrations among the Titans players.

Bairstow had been destructive, scoring 47 off just 22 balls with four boundaries and three sixes, and was part of an 84-run partnership with Rohit Sharma that looked to set Mumbai Indians up well. But this brilliant fielding effort from Gujarat stopped Bairstow’s momentum just when MI looked ready to dominate.

The match itself was a high-stakes showdown, with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya winning the toss and opting to bat first. The winner would move on to Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings, who had earlier lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 1. The pressure was immense, and moments like this spectacular catch highlighted the razor-thin margins in this intense IPL contest.
