Sean Penn, an actor, compares Trump to a husband killer: Before he leaves, he might destroy the globe

Actor Sean Penn has launched a blistering attack on Donald Trump, likening the former and current U.S. president to a “jealous spouse who murders another partner” and warning that Trump might attempt to “destroy the world” rather than relinquish power after a potential second term.

Speaking on The Jim Acosta Show podcast alongside Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, Penn argued that Trump’s mindset is one of extreme solipsism, saying:

“Trump and his solipsism may have that relationship with the world... this destruction is in part a power play. And also a literal intention of his final out.”

Penn, now 64, expressed concern that if Trump ever felt he was losing control, he might act out destructively, both domestically and globally. When asked about Trump’s apparent interest in a third term, Penn responded:

“I think he might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life.”

This comes amid escalating concerns about Trump’s ambitions following his historic reelection in 2024, which made him the second U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms—after Grover Cleveland. Trump had previously served from 2017 to 2021, was defeated by Joe Biden, and returned to power in 2025 after defeating Kamala Harris.

Although the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly limits presidents to two terms, Trump has repeatedly teased the idea of seeking a third, saying he's “not joking.” His running mate and current Vice President, JD Vance, refused to rule out Trump’s third-term ambitions during a recent Fox News interview, further fueling speculation.

Meanwhile, Rep. Eric Swalwell warned that Trump may escalate his actions if he feels legally or politically cornered:

“Dictators never plan for succession... If he doesn’t believe there’s somebody who can protect him, you’ll see him ratchet up... what he’s willing to do to the country to protect himself.”

The remarks reflect growing anxiety among Trump critics over authoritarian tendencies, especially as Trump continues aggressive policies on immigration, tariffs, and international diplomacy since returning to office in January 2025.
