The iPad version of WhatsApp is now out after years of waiting: Features, accessibility, and additional

WhatsApp has finally launched its much-anticipated dedicated iPad app, ending over a decade of user requests for a proper tablet experience. Previously, iPad users had to rely on WhatsApp Web, which was limited and lacked the fluidity of a native app. Now available on the App Store, the iPad version brings a tailored experience that closely mirrors the iPhone app but optimized for the larger screen and iPadOS features.

The new app supports group video and audio calls with up to 32 participants, lets users switch between front and rear cameras during calls, and includes screen sharing. It fully integrates with iPadOS multitasking tools like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, allowing users to chat while simultaneously using other apps such as Safari or Mail without needing to switch back and forth constantly.

For users with accessories like the Magic Keyboard or Apple Pencil, WhatsApp provides enhanced support for easier typing and navigation, making messaging more comfortable on the iPad.

Powered by Meta’s multi-device sync technology, the iPad app can be used independently of the iPhone, syncing messages, media, and calls securely with end-to-end encryption across devices — including iPhone, Mac, and now iPad. Privacy is further enhanced with a chat lock feature, which protects sensitive conversations, especially useful on shared iPads.

Meta calls this launch a major milestone, promising this is just the beginning of WhatsApp’s iPad journey with more features expected in future updates. The app is rolling out globally and is available for download today, offering iPad users a full-fledged WhatsApp experience designed specifically for their device.
