When Mira Rajput married Shahid Kapoor at the age of 20, she felt "isolated": was busy and caught up

Mira Rajput Kapoor, the wife of actor Shahid Kapoor, recently shared her personal reflections on getting married at the young age of 20, revealing that the experience felt “isolating” in the beginning. Speaking candidly on a podcast with influencers Naina Bhan and Sakshi Shivdasani, Mira opened up about how the initial years of her marriage made her feel disconnected from her peers, as she compared her life to that of her friends.

Mira, who got married to Shahid Kapoor in 2015 when she was just 20 and he was 34, explained that the difference in their life stages led to her feeling somewhat alone at times. “We (Mira and her friends) did evolve separately. I’d like to admit that it was quite isolating because we were just in different phases of life at that time,” she said. At the time, she found herself watching her friends travel, pursue higher education, and experience life milestones that she wasn't part of. “You get to different phases in life, and you look at your friends. I wish I could do what she’s doing,” she added, acknowledging how the contrast in their life choices affected her.

As Mira reflected on the changes in her friendships over time, she mentioned how her social circle didn’t always understand her new responsibilities. “For the longest time, it was me thinking, ‘Oh, my friend has gone for her Master’s, or they’re travelling, or like there’s a gap year. You know, life is great. You move cities, you have a wonderful family, kids, all of that,’” Mira said. The adjustment also led to her spending less time with her friends, which created misunderstandings in their relationships. “I even remember I couldn’t speak to them as often as I used to. They were like, ‘What has happened? Just because you’ve moved and gotten married doesn’t mean you forget us.’” Mira shared that, at the time, her friends didn’t fully grasp the changes in her life. “I was like, ‘Guys, genuinely, I’m occupied and caught up and stuff.’” However, over time, as her friends have entered similar phases of life, they’ve come to understand her perspective, and their friendships have remained strong.

Mira and Shahid Kapoor’s love story began in an arranged marriage set up through their families' shared spiritual background, and despite their age gap, they have built a strong, supportive relationship. The couple has two children, Misha and Zain, and Mira’s candid insights into her personal journey of balancing family life and maintaining relationships shed light on the unique challenges she faced early on in her marriage.

Her openness about these experiences highlights how the evolution of friendships can change as we enter different life stages, and how understanding and patience play a key role in sustaining long-lasting relationships.
