Elle Fanning’s new film Sentimental Value made a stunning impact at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, earning a remarkable 15-minute standing ovation, according to Variety. The emotional moment saw Elle wiping away tears as the audience enthusiastically applauded the film.
Directed by Joachim Trier, Sentimental Value features Fanning portraying a glamorous Hollywood starlet. At the end of the screening, co-star Stellan Skarsgård was seen blowing kisses to the crowd, while Trier himself appeared visibly moved and choked up during his thanks, highlighting the long and difficult journey many involved endured to bring the film to the screen.
Alongside Fanning and Skarsgård, the cast includes Cory Michael Smith and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
Joachim Trier is no stranger to Cannes, having first appeared in 2011 with Oslo, August 31st, followed by Louder Than Bombs in 2015. His 2021 film The Worst Person in the World won Renate Reinsve the Best Actress award at Cannes and later earned multiple Oscar nominations, cementing his reputation as a critically acclaimed filmmaker.
