The screening celebrated the re-release of Muzaffar Ali’s classic Umrao Jaan, which has been meticulously restored by the NFDC-NFAI under the National Film Heritage Mission. The film, set in 19th-century Lucknow, follows the life of Amiran (played by Rekha) and her complex relationships with characters portrayed by Farooque Shaikh, Raj Babbar, and Naseeruddin Shah. The restored version hit theatres on June 27.
