Mahesh Babu's film Khaleja has made a powerful comeback with its re-release, generating an impressive Rs 6.75 crore gross worldwide on its opening day. This strong start places Khaleja as the third-biggest Indian re-release ever, following only Thalapathy Vijay’s Ghilli (Rs 7.75 crore) and Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh (Rs 7 crore), according to trade tracker Sacnilk.
The film saw exceptional performance in North America and earned Rs 5.75 crore gross domestically in India. It also had a fantastic pre-sale run, with over Rs 3 crore collected through advance bookings on the opening day alone, and solid footfall from spot bookings, indicating robust audience interest going forward into Sunday.
The fan excitement is palpable, with some fans going to quirky lengths to show their enthusiasm. Notably, on Friday, a fan entered a Vijayawada theatre with a live snake, inspired by a memorable scene in the movie where Mahesh Babu’s character walks through a desert with a snake.
Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, Khaleja features Anushka Shetty alongside Mahesh Babu. The film also stars well-known actors like Prakash Raj, Shafi, Sunil, Subbaraju, Rao Ramesh, and Ali in key roles. The story revolves around a taxi driver who is revered as a divine figure sent to save a village suffering from a mysterious illness.
The re-release took place on May 30 and has clearly struck a chord with audiences both in India and abroad.
