Meiyazhagan, one of Nani's favorite movies of the decade, is absolutely beautiful

Actor Nani, known for his emotive performances, recently shared his heartfelt admiration for the Tamil film Meiyazhagan, calling it “an absolute beauty” and one of the most personal cinematic experiences he’s had in recent times. While promoting his latest outing HIT 3, Nani opened up during an interview with Cinema Vikatan, revealing how deeply the film moved him.

He said, “Forget crying — I was overwhelmed.” According to Nani, Meiyazhagan stands out not because of grand visuals or massive production budgets, but due to its raw emotional depth and sincerity. “You can build sets. You can spend thousands of crores. That is respected, appreciated — all that. But this (Meiyazhagan) is magic. Oh, this is something else,” he said with clear admiration.

The film, written and directed by C. Prem Kumar (best known for 96), stars Karthi and Arvind Swami in lead roles. It tells the story of a man’s quiet journey of self-discovery when he visits his ancestral village for a cousin’s wedding and meets a distant relative. The film explores themes of memory, identity, and belonging in a way that Nani called “extremely personal.”

He reflected on the challenge of telling such intimate stories in cinema, saying:

“This... to touch that moment. Something which is so personal, extremely personal. How do you tell this story?”

Nani’s praise for Meiyazhagan highlights a growing appreciation for soulful, character-driven narratives in Indian cinema—especially when delivered with authenticity and restraint. His emotional response also suggests that Meiyazhagan could become a quietly celebrated gem, especially among those who admire poignant, reflective storytelling.
