FIFA has officially lifted the transfer ban on Mohun Bagan Super Giant, clearing the iconic club to sign new players ahead of the upcoming season. The ban, which was imposed on May 5 due to non-payment of dues to Central Coast Mariners—the former club of Australian striker Jason Cummings—was revoked following swift compliance by the Indian side.
According to club officials, Mohun Bagan submitted a 107-page document addressing FIFA’s concerns and responded promptly to two follow-up queries from the governing body. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee then issued a formal notification lifting the ban.
“Mohun Bagan submitted a 107-page document to FIFA and thereafter there were two queries, and finally the disciplinary committee has sent a mail lifting the ban,” a club official told PTI.
This resolution is notably quicker than that of Mumbai City FC, whose transfer ban under similar circumstances took nearly three months to be revoked.
With the transfer window having opened on June 9, the decision now allows Mohun Bagan to proceed with player acquisitions and squad restructuring without restrictions.
The development also coincides with a leadership change at the club, as Debasish Dutta and Srinjoy Bose recently assumed the roles of president and general secretary, respectively.
