A YouTuber in Uttar Pradesh was arrested for posting offensive material while posing as a priest

YouTuber Mohammed Aamir, who runs the popular channel "Top Real Team" with over 5.83 million subscribers, was arrested after a detailed investigation revealed his content was riddled with profanities, obscene language, and misleading information. The arrest was prompted by a complaint from a user named Aman Thakur, who took to the social media platform X to raise concerns about the nature of Aamir’s content. Tagging the Moradabad Police and Uttar Pradesh Police, Thakur posted a video highlighting the objectionable material being published on Aamir’s channel and urged the authorities to take swift and decisive action against him.

Responding to the complaint, the police and the administration's dedicated social media monitoring team began a comprehensive review of the channel. Their findings confirmed that the channel's rising popularity was largely driven by content that frequently featured abusive language, vulgarity, and deliberate misinformation. According to officials, the videos not only lacked factual accuracy but were also crafted in a provocative manner designed to attract attention by stirring controversy. This kind of content, the police said, posed a real threat to public order and social harmony, prompting the need for legal action.

SP City Ranvijay Singh, while confirming the arrest, stated that Aamir’s actions went beyond simple violation of community guidelines. “The YouTuber named Aamir was uploading videos filled with abusive language and malicious propaganda. A case has been filed against him,” Singh said. He further added that the police’s social media unit had meticulously analysed hours of video footage and determined that the content was harmful and inflammatory in nature. The videos, according to the police, were not only inappropriate but also capable of inciting unrest or disturbing communal peace.

Aamir's arrest marks a significant moment in the tightening of regulations around digital content creation in India, especially on widely accessed platforms like YouTube. Authorities have made it clear that content creators with large audiences bear a responsibility to ensure that their material does not promote hate, misinformation, or vulgarity. As the investigation continues, the police have confirmed that further action will be taken against anyone else associated with the creation or distribution of such videos. This case stands as a warning to others in the digital space, demonstrating that the freedom of expression must be balanced with accountability and respect for the law.
