According to a report, 71% of Indians worry about AI frauds on Prime Day

Prime Day Scams Surge in India: Over 70% Shoppers Fear Fake Deals and AI Traps

🚨 FAKE AMAZON SITES AND SCAM TEXTS FLOODING THE INTERNET
According to McAfee’s 2025 Global Prime Day Scams Study, over 36,000 fake Amazon websites and 75,000+ scam texts are floating around, often peaking just before Prime Day. These mimic Amazon delivery updates, refund requests, or account warnings—designed to spark panic and prompt instant clicks.

India's love for online shopping remains strong: 96% of Indian consumers say they plan to shop during Prime Day this year. But that excitement has become a magnet for cybercriminals who are using AI-generated deepfakes, fake websites, and phishing texts to deceive even the smartest shoppers.

💸 Big Losses, Bigger Silence
The study found that 80% of scam victims in India lose over ₹40,000, and 1 in 5 never report the scam—often out of embarrassment. Beyond financial loss, scams cause emotional stress and damage consumer trust.

👶 YOUNGER SHOPPERS MOST AT RISK
Gen Z buyers (ages 18–24) are especially vulnerable. Many are lured by irresistible offers from unfamiliar brands on social media—offers that are often fraudulent. Fake Prime membership renewals or deep discounts make it easier for scammers to hook them.

🔐 INDIANS ARE FIGHTING BACK
Still, awareness is growing. Many shoppers say they plan to:

  • Use strong, unique passwords

  • Enable two-factor authentication

  • Adopt scam-detection apps or browser tools

  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links or SMS messages

🛡️ SMART SHOPPING TIPS TO STAY SAFE

  1. Verify Before You Click: Use the official Amazon app or website to check orders or notifications. Never click on links from unknown sources.

  2. Spot the Red Flags: Messages asking you to act urgently, pay via gift cards, or share OTPs and bank details are likely scams.

  3. Look for the Lock: Always check for “https://” and a padlock icon in the browser before entering any personal or payment information.

  4. Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly check your bank and card statements for suspicious activity.

  5. Trust Your Instincts: If something feels too good to be true—it probably is.
