Between Gong Yoo and Kapil Sharma: Vir Das's Fool Volume makes a successful Netflix debut

Vir Das is basking in the sweet spot between comedy and global pop culture — quite literally. Following the release of his latest Netflix special Fool Volume, the comedian found himself at Number 3 on Netflix India’s trending chart, sandwiched between two entertainment giants: The Great Indian Kapil Show and Squid Game: Season 3. Naturally, Das turned the moment into comedy gold.

Taking to Instagram, he joked, “Stuck between Kapil and Squid. Both mammoths. A Hindi-Korean-English sandwich,” acknowledging the unlikely but hilarious placement of his special between two massively popular shows. He didn’t stop there — he shared an AI-generated image that perfectly captured his cheeky humor: Vir Das lying in bed, flanked by Kapil Sharma and Korean actor Gong Yoo (of Squid Game and Train to Busan fame). “I don’t know why there’s a bed. That’s AI, not me,” Das added, poking fun at the absurdity of the image.

In his caption, he wrote, “Thank you. 24 Hours in, we open at Number 3. Fool Volume, a comedy special between two massive tentpoles, is insanity. A first for me. The highlight has been messages and feedback from across the world — and the Egyptian cotton sheets in this bed. Sorry about the AI @kapilsharma.”

Fool Volume marks Vir Das’s fifth Netflix special, a first for any Indian comedian. His journey from Abroad Understanding to the International Emmy-winning Landing has made him a global ambassador for Indian stand-up, and this latest release continues to push that boundary with unapologetic wit, political undertones, and self-deprecating charm.

As fans around the world laugh their way through Fool Volume, one thing’s clear — Vir Das isn’t just stuck between Kapil and Squid; he’s firmly wedged into the global comedy spotlight.
