Did the army general tell Pakistan that India had lost? The center's one-word explanation

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has strongly refuted a fake claim circulated by several Pakistani propaganda accounts suggesting that India's Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Rahul R Singh, had admitted to a military defeat by Pakistan's electronic warfare and Chinese C4 intelligence systems during the recent India-Pakistan conflict.

The viral misinformation included fabricated quotes attributed to Lt Gen Singh, such as:

“Pakistan’s electronic warfare and C4 intelligence capability truly surprised us, and Chinese technology played a big role in defeating India.”

These posts falsely connected the claim to Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory mission after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, followed by heavy clashes and drone attacks from Pakistan across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. A ceasefire was announced on May 10, after Pakistan reportedly sought de-escalation within 48 hours.

In response to the false claims, PIB’s Fact Check Unit called the narrative completely baseless and clarified that Lt Gen Singh never made any such statement. It accused Pakistani propaganda accounts of fabricating the quotes to malign the Indian Army.

What Lt Gen Singh actually said, while speaking at the ‘New Age Military Technologies’ conference organised by FICCI last week, was a strategic assessment of China’s influence on Pakistan's military. He stated:

“In the last five years, 81% of the military hardware that Pakistan is getting is Chinese. China is able to test its weapons against other weapons — so it’s like a live lab available to them.”

He also revealed that during previous DGMO-level talks, Pakistan had precise live intelligence inputs, which likely came via Chinese assistance, noting:

“Pakistan was actually mentioning that we know your important vector is primed and ready for action… So, they were getting live inputs… from China.”

In essence, Lt Gen Singh highlighted the strategic threat posed by the China-Pakistan military nexus, not any admission of defeat. The fabricated quotes being circulated are part of a disinformation campaign, and official Indian sources have debunked them unequivocally.
