Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Ghana’s national honour, The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, on Thursday in recognition of his distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership. The award was presented by President John Dramani Mahama during PM Modi’s official visit to the West African nation.
Expressing gratitude, PM Modi posted on X that he was "honoured to be conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’." In his acceptance speech, he said the honour was not a personal accolade but a tribute to the 140 crore people of India.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the recognition a testament to the deepening India-Ghana relationship and their shared democratic values. Modi noted that this award “deepens the friendship between India and Ghana” and places a “new responsibility” on him to continue strengthening bilateral ties.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi and President Mahama held wide-ranging discussions and agreed to elevate the relationship to a comprehensive partnership. This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in three decades, and is part of Modi’s broader five-nation tour aimed at expanding India’s diplomatic and economic footprint in Africa and beyond.
Modi expressed confidence that his “historic” visit would add fresh momentum to India-Ghana relations.
