Shashi Tharoor refused to follow the party line and refused to speak on Op Sindoor: References

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor chose not to participate in the discussion on Operation Sindoor during the ongoing session of Parliament, as he found it difficult to align with the current stance adopted by his party. According to sources from within the Congress and the Opposition leadership, Tharoor was approached by both the Leader of the Opposition's office and the party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha. They had requested him to speak on the matter, expecting him to echo the party’s criticism of the government’s handling of the operation.

However, Tharoor declined the offer, making it clear that he holds a different viewpoint from that of his party on this particular issue. He reportedly emphasized that he has always viewed Operation Sindoor as a successful initiative and intends to maintain that opinion, regardless of the shifting political narratives. Tharoor conveyed to the party leadership that if he were to speak in Parliament, he would do so in a manner that remains consistent with his previously expressed views, which have been publicly supportive of the operation's outcomes.

Upon being informed that any intervention he made in the discussion would have to reflect the Congress party’s critical position, Tharoor chose not to engage in the debate at all. His decision highlights a growing instance where personal conviction and party directives may not always align perfectly, especially on matters of national interest or military operations. For now, Tharoor’s absence from the debate stands as a notable development in the broader discourse surrounding Operation Sindoor and the political reactions to it.
