Diljit Dosanjh has firmly shut down speculation that he was dropped from Border 2 following the backlash over his association with Sardaar Ji 3, which cast Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. On Instagram, he shared a behind-the-scenes video from the sets of Border 2, in which he is seen walking out of his vanity van in a formal outfit with an army badge and logo, and heading into a dance sequence shoot. He captioned the video simply: “Border 2.”
This post confirms that Diljit remains part of the project despite earlier reports suggesting he was being replaced due to controversy.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which had initially opposed his inclusion, has now revoked its objection. FWICE President BN Tiwari told India Today that producer Bhushan Kumar personally requested they allow Diljit to continue, and considering Border 2 has no Pakistani actors and focuses on Indian security forces, the federation allowed it.
However, the reaction within the industry remains divided. Filmmaker Ashok Pandit criticized the decision, saying he would "never cast Diljit Dosanjh in future films" and claimed that non-cooperation with Diljit will continue. He also stated that a formal letter to this effect has been issued to the federation.
Despite that, Diljit appears unfazed. He had previously posted another video where he was warmly welcomed on set, and official cast photos confirmed his continued involvement. Border 2, the sequel to the iconic 1997 war film Border, features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh in key roles.
The film is slated for release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend.
