Unbearable agony: A paralyzed teacher in Indore requests the president's approval for euthanasia

In a deeply emotional and distressing appeal, Kumari Chandrakanta Jethani, a dedicated government school teacher from Indore, has requested permission for euthanasia from President Droupadi Murmu. Confined to a wheelchair and suffering from severe and chronic physical ailments, Jethani continues to teach for nearly 7 to 8 hours every day—an effort that has now become excruciatingly painful. Despite her deteriorating health, she remains committed to her students and her responsibilities as an educator.

Jethani's contributions to society go far beyond the classroom. In a rare act of generosity, she donated her personal property for the benefit of the government schoolchildren she teaches. She has also pledged her body and organs to MGM Medical College, hoping that even in death, she might contribute to medical research and education.

According to Jethani, her debilitating condition began as a result of incorrect medical treatment she received during a hospital stay. Following this, she was relocated to an ashram, where she claims to have endured further hardship and neglect, adding to her already immense physical and emotional suffering.

Now, feeling abandoned by both the healthcare system and the government, Jethani says her body is breaking down and her pain has become unbearable. With no hope of recovery and feeling a profound sense of isolation, she has made an earnest and painful plea to the President of India—asking to be granted the right to end her life through euthanasia.

Her appeal has sparked conversations around disability rights, the treatment of public servants, and the larger issues of compassion, dignity, and support for those who serve society while silently enduring personal agony.
