In the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, two Hindu men have come forward with a disturbing claim that they were abducted, stripped, and brutally tortured by a group of individuals, allegedly as an act of revenge linked to a previous report they had made about a suspected 'love jihad' case. According to the police, the violent incident appears to be rooted in a longstanding personal enmity between the parties involved. The episode came to public attention on July 23 when one of the victims, Chandan Maurya, filed an official complaint at the Ramgaon police station, detailing the harrowing experience he and his cousin Mohit endured.
Chandan stated that on the day of the incident, he, his cousin Mohit, and a friend named Annu were traveling to attend a birthday celebration when they were suddenly intercepted by a group of men. The attackers, including individuals identified as Shahabuddin, Anas, and Zeeshan, allegedly forced Chandan and Mohit into a vehicle and transported them to an isolated location. Once there, the victims were reportedly subjected to severe physical abuse. Chandan claimed they were beaten with iron rods and sticks, denied water, and even forced to consume urine. He further alleged that they were compelled at gunpoint to chant religious slogans such as "Islam Zindabad," intensifying the trauma they suffered.
Law enforcement authorities acted upon the complaint and successfully arrested three of the accused — Shahabuddin, Anas, and Zeeshan. Additional SP Durga Prasad Tiwari confirmed that the men were rescued near Matera, and the vehicle used in the alleged abduction was seized. However, he also clarified that the more sensitive claims, such as the forced chanting of religious slogans, were not part of the original FIR and only surfaced later during the investigation. As a result, those allegations are still being verified and examined in detail.
In his statement, Chandan went on to accuse the attackers of being members of an Instagram group called "Baba Guruup," which, according to him, operated under fake Hindu profiles to allegedly lure Hindu girls through social media platforms like WhatsApp. He described the group as flaunting an extravagant lifestyle, using luxury cars and gadgets to attract attention. He even shared screenshots of what he claimed to be fake identities used by the group to deceive women. Moreover, Chandan expressed frustration over police inaction when he first raised these concerns almost two months earlier. He alleged that instead of taking the necessary steps to investigate the group, the police deleted the evidence from his phone and attempted to mediate a compromise between the parties.
Additional SP Tiwari responded to these serious allegations by stating that such claims were not included in the initial complaint and have only been introduced in the course of the ongoing investigation. He assured that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly probed, and any new information would be carefully examined for authenticity. As of now, further investigation is underway to determine the full scope of the incident and bring all responsible individuals to justice.
