Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara were criticized for their involvement with alleged sexual assault

Director Vignesh Shivan and actor-producer Nayanthara are under fire on social media for collaborating with choreographer Jani Master, who was previously accused and arrested in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case involving the sexual assault of a minor colleague. The backlash began after Vignesh Shivan re-shared a social media post confirming Jani Master’s involvement in his upcoming film, Love Insurance Kompany, co-produced by Nayanthara.

On July 1, Jani Master posted a photo and video from the sets with Vignesh, praising him for his trust and collaboration. Vignesh re-shared the post with affectionate emojis and words like “Sweet master ji,” which drew immediate criticism online.

Social media users questioned the couple’s decision to “platform a sexual predator,” especially given the seriousness of the charges against Jani Master. One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote:

“There’s a reason people are losing respect for #VigneshShivan. First it was Dileep. Now it’s Jani Master… And #Nayanthara is just okay with it? Some ‘power couple.’”

Critics also pointed to Nayanthara’s previously vocal stance against abusers and called out what they perceived as hypocrisy.

To recap the legal background:

  • In September 2024, Jani Master admitted to sexually assaulting a minor female junior.

  • He was arrested, granted conditional bail, and his National Award for Best Choreography (for Megam Karukkatha from Thiruchitrambalam) was suspended pending further inquiry.

So far, neither Vignesh Shivan nor Nayanthara have made any public statement addressing the backlash or clarifying their stance.

The silence has further fueled criticism, with many demanding accountability and a clear stand on supporting survivors of sexual abuse.
