Wimbledon: Madison Keys advances to Round 3 and Aryna Sabalenka overcomes the Bouzkova scare

Wimbledon 2025 Update – July 2: Sabalenka Advances, Keys and Norrie Also Through

Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, overcame a stern test from Czech player Marie Bouzkova to reach the third round of the women’s singles at Wimbledon 2025. Sabalenka won 7-6(4), 6-4 in a tightly contested match that lasted 1 hour 35 minutes.

  • The first set saw both players holding serve, leading to a tiebreak.

  • Sabalenka, composed under pressure, clinched the breaker by winning three straight points from 4-4.

  • In the second set, she grabbed a crucial break in the fifth game and held serve to close the match.

With Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula already knocked out, Sabalenka remains one of the few top seeds still in contention. Speaking after the win, she acknowledged the string of upsets, saying:

“It’s very sad to see so many top players lose... I hope there’s no upsets anymore in this tournament if you know what I mean.”

She will next face the winner of the Emma Raducanu vs. Marketa Vondrousova second-round match.

Other Highlights:

  • Madison Keys advanced comfortably with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Olga Danilovic. She’ll face Laura Siegemund in the third round, who upset Leylah Fernandez.

  • In the men’s draw, British hope Cameron Norrie defeated Frances Tiafoe in four sets: 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5. He awaits the winner of Jiri Lehechka vs. Mattia Bellucci.

Sabalenka’s form and presence now stand out even more as the women’s field continues to open up in a dramatic Wimbledon week.
