After a mid-air hitch, an Alliance Air flight headed for Kolkata returns to Guwahati safely

On Wednesday, an Alliance Air flight headed to Kolkata was forced to return to Guwahati after facing a technical problem shortly after take-off. The flight, identified as 9I756, departed from Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 1:09 pm. However, soon after leaving the ground, the pilots reported a technical snag, which prompted authorities to declare a “full-scale emergency” at the airport, according to ANI reports.

In keeping with safety protocols, the aircraft was diverted back to its point of origin. The emergency situation was officially declared at 1:42 pm, while the plane safely landed back in Guwahati at 2:27 pm. By 2:40 pm, the emergency status was withdrawn after confirming that the situation was under control and that the aircraft had landed without any incident.

A spokesperson for the airport later issued a statement assuring that all passengers and crew members on board were safe and were immediately provided with necessary support. The official added that the decision to declare a full emergency was purely precautionary, aimed at ensuring maximum safety in case of any escalation.

The statement further mentioned that passengers were safely deboarded after landing and assisted by terminal staff. While the airline worked to arrange alternate travel options for the stranded passengers, the airport’s operations team remained on standby to extend any additional support if required. Officials also clarified that this incident did not disrupt other flights, and the overall schedule and airport operations continued as usual.

Alliance Air, on its part, confirmed that the flight returned to Guwahati due to a technical snag and emphasized that an internal investigation had already been initiated to determine the exact cause. The airline stressed that the decision to return was precautionary and aligned with standard safety procedures, ensuring that the aircraft landed back without any risk to those on board.

In its statement, the airline reassured the public of its commitment to passenger safety, highlighting that all its aircraft undergo rigorous and regular maintenance checks before every departure. The technical issue, detected during the Guwahati-Kolkata flight, is currently under thorough examination, and further details will be disclosed once the inquiry is complete.
