Advocates Wajed Khan, also known as Bidkar, and Ganesh Mhaskhe have filed a legal petition asserting that the teaser of the upcoming film Jolly LLB 3 portrays both lawyers and judges in an undignified and disrespectful light. Their petition contends that the filmmakers, while claiming creative freedom, have resorted to humor that demeans the integrity of the legal profession. The controversy has gained attention because Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, who feature in the film, have now been summoned by a Pune Civil Court. The case revolves around allegations that the teaser not only mocks but also diminishes the reputation of those who serve in the judiciary and legal practice.
The petition, highlighting specific elements of the teaser, claims that the actors and the film’s team have crossed the limits of satire. According to the advocates, the humor used is indecent and undermines the seriousness of court proceedings. Acting on the petition, 12th Junior Division Civil Judge J. G. Pawar issued summonses to both Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, along with the producers of the film. They have been directed to appear before the court on August 28. Additionally, the petitioners have demanded that the court impose a restraining order preventing the film’s release until the issue is resolved.
One of the key concerns raised by the petitioners relates to the teaser scene where both Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi are shown wearing lawyer’s bands while promoting the film. The advocates argue that such imagery not only trivializes the legal profession but also creates a negative perception of lawyers and judges in the public eye. Advocate Wajed Khan specifically pointed out that the film depicts lawyers referring to judges as “Mamu,” a term he describes as an outright insult to the judiciary. He further stated that courtroom arguments in the film are portrayed more like casual family quarrels, which, although intended as satire, come across as degrading and offensive to the entire legal fraternity.
As the date of hthe hearing draws closer, the film finds itself embroiled in legal disputes even before it reaches the theaters. The case highlights the tension that often arises when the right to creative liberty clashes with the responsibility of maintaining respect for esteemed institutions. While the filmmakers may argue that the film is fictional and satirical in nature, the petitioners strongly believe it has crossed ethical boundaries and harmed the dignity of those serving in the courts of law.
Jolly LLB 3 is an eagerly awaited film that brings together Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi in the lead roles. Directed and written by Subhash Kapoor, the film is presented by Star Studio18 and produced by Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare. The cast also includes Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao, alongside the two lead actors. The makers recently released a promotional teaser, in which Saurabh Shukla was featured reprising his popular role as Judge Tripathi, a character that has been central to the franchise since its inception.
The film, slated for release on September 19, has already generated significant buzz among fans who eagerly await its arrival. However, the ongoing legal battle now casts uncertainty over its scheduled release. The dispute has transformed Jolly LLB 3 from a much-anticipated courtroom comedy-drama into a real-life case study on the boundaries of cinematic expression and the protection of professional dignity within the legal system.
