Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the governor of Manipur, is given additional responsibility as the governor of Nagaland

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of serving as the Governor of Nagaland, a move that comes in the wake of the passing of Nagaland Governor La Ganesan. The announcement was formally made through an official communique released by the President’s office on Saturday. The notification stated that following the demise of Shri La Ganesan, the President of India has directed Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who is currently serving as the Governor of Manipur, to also undertake the duties of the Governor of Nagaland alongside his existing responsibilities.

The decision was necessitated after the post of Nagaland Governor fell vacant due to the unfortunate death of La Ganesan, who was 80 years old. According to Raj Bhavan officials in Kohima, Ganesan passed away on Friday while receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Chennai. His death marks the end of a long journey of political service and dedication, leaving behind a significant void in both Nagaland and Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural spheres.

Reacting to the news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences and paid tribute to the late leader. In a heartfelt message shared on X, PM Modi described La Ganesan as a committed nationalist who devoted his life to serving the nation and to strengthening the BJP’s presence in Tamil Nadu. He further highlighted Ganesan’s deep affection for Tamil culture and his lasting contributions to the community, calling his demise a painful loss.

Expressions of grief poured in from various leaders, including Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai, who mourned Ganesan’s passing as a monumental loss to the Tamil community. Annamalai extended his sympathies to the bereaved family and acknowledged Ganesan’s lifelong efforts in upholding cultural values and strengthening political outreach. The sudden transition of responsibilities to Ajay Kumar Bhalla underscores both the need for continuity in governance and the deep sense of respect for La Ganesan’s enduring legacy.
