Days after a fight during the Kanwar Yatra, a CRPF jawan was shot dead in Haryana

Three individuals connected to the murder of CRPF jawan Krishan Kumar were apprehended today, though the two primary suspects, Nishant and Ajay, remain at large. The tragic incident occurred on July 28, when Krishan was gunned down just outside his home in Sonipat, Haryana. This occurred only days after he had been involved in a heated altercation during the Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar with several men from his own village.

Krishan Kumar, approximately 30 years old, was on leave from his duty at the time of his death. According to police, the attack happened in the early hours of Monday as he was returning to his residence. Two assailants, now identified as Nishant and Ajay, opened fire on him before fleeing the scene. Local law enforcement stated that tensions between Krishan and a group of village youths began during the religious pilgrimage, and those involved in the dispute had already been identified before the murder.

Investigators have revealed that the killing was premeditated and that a detailed plan to assassinate Krishan was orchestrated even before he left for Haridwar. In addition to targeting Krishan, the suspects allegedly intended to murder another individual, Anand, also known as Pahiya. Authorities believe that Ajay, before departing for the Kanwar Yatra, handed over his illegal firearm to an associate named Mohit. Another accomplice, Praveen, also known by the alias Mendhak, is reported to have participated in the conspiracy.

The killers used a vehicle belonging to an individual named Sagar to carry out the crime. Ajay and Nishant used this car to travel to the village of Kheri Damkan. Once there, they ambushed Krishan Kumar and fatally shot him before making their escape. In the aftermath of the killing, police detained three suspects who played supporting roles in the crime—Sagar, the vehicle’s owner and driver; Mohit, who held Ajay’s illegal gun; and Praveen, one of the conspirators. All three were presented in court and were remanded to police custody for one day.

Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway as authorities conduct raids to apprehend the main accused, Nishant and Ajay, who continue to evade arrest. The incident has left the community in mourning. Krishan Kumar is survived by his wife and young child, adding further gravity to the crime and intensifying calls for justice.
