Delhi Police have made a second arrest in connection with the recent attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, detaining Tahseen Syed, a resident of Rajkot, for his alleged role in the conspiracy. Officials revealed that Tahseen is a close associate of Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, the prime accused in the case. Investigations have uncovered that Tahseen transferred Rs 2,000 to Rajesh shortly before the incident, raising suspicions about his involvement.
Tahseen was picked up in Rajkot and subsequently brought to Delhi, where police formally arrested him. His detention marks a significant step in the ongoing probe, as authorities continue to unravel the network of individuals connected to the attack. Alongside this arrest, five of Rajesh’s acquaintances have also been questioned to establish whether others played a role in planning or supporting the act.
The attack itself unfolded during Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s weekly Jan Sunwai, an open forum she has been conducting since assuming office to hear citizens’ grievances directly. On Wednesday morning, the accused, Sakariya, arrived at the Civil Lines residence in a rickshaw, posing as a complainant seeking help for the release of an imprisoned relative. Under this pretense, he handed over documents before suddenly assaulting the Chief Minister, pushing her and pulling her by the hair in front of staff and citizens.
The shocking incident has sparked widespread concern about the security of public representatives during open forums. Police officials have assured that the investigation is being pursued with urgency, and strict action will be taken against all individuals involved in the conspiracy. Security arrangements at the Chief Minister’s public hearings are also expected to be reviewed to prevent such breaches in the future.
