Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday highlighted the urgent need to make healthcare and education both accessible and affordable, pointing out that these essential services are increasingly out of reach for the average citizen.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Madhav Srishti Arogya Kendra, an affordable cancer treatment facility set up by the philanthropic organisation 'Guruji Seva Nyas,' Bhagwat stressed that these sectors should function with compassion and service at their core, rather than being driven by profit. He lamented that healthcare and education, which were once pursued in a spirit of service, have now become commercialised.
Bhagwat emphasised that quality healthcare and education must be made available to everyone without financial strain. He expressed particular concern about the prohibitive cost of cancer treatment in India, noting that advanced facilities are concentrated in only eight to ten cities, forcing patients to spend large sums on travel and treatment.
He urged capable and resourceful members of society to step forward and contribute to improving healthcare and education. Rejecting purely technical terms like corporate social responsibility (CSR), Bhagwat advocated for embracing the concept of dharma, which he described as fulfilling one’s social responsibility while uniting and uplifting society.
The RSS chief also praised India’s medical approach for its personalised, patient-specific care, contrasting it with the uniform treatment standards common in Western countries. He argued that healthcare should respond to individual needs, not apply a one-size-fits-all model.
