IndiGo suspends a man for striking a fellow traveler in midair; the victim disappears

IndiGo Airlines has placed a passenger on its ‘No Fly List’ after he was caught on camera slapping another passenger suffering a panic attack aboard a Mumbai-Kolkata flight. In an official statement, the airline stated that the assaulter has been suspended from flying on any of its flights, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance toward unruly behavior.

The incident, which occurred mid-air, quickly went viral after video footage showed the man striking his fellow passenger while others on board questioned his actions. When asked why he hit someone clearly in distress, the accused simply said, “I was having a problem.” Upon landing in Kolkata, the airline handed him over to the airport authorities and reported the incident to the relevant agencies for further action.

While the airline has acted swiftly against the assaulter, growing concern surrounds the victim, identified as Hussain Ahmed Mazumdar. A resident of Cachar district in Assam, Hussain was reportedly experiencing a panic attack during the flight. He was scheduled to board a connecting flight from Kolkata to Silchar, but has since gone missing.

According to his family, they last spoke to him after the flight landed in Kolkata. Since then, his phone has been switched off and he has never arrived in Silchar. The family, left distraught and confused, claims that repeated attempts to contact IndiGo for information yielded no clear answers.

They have now registered a missing person’s report at Kachiguda police station and appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for intervention. The incident has raised broader questions about the protocols in place for assisting passengers in medical distress and the responsibility of airlines after disembarkation.

As investigations continue, IndiGo reiterated that customer and crew safety remains its top priority. However, pressure is mounting on both the airline and authorities to explain how a vulnerable passenger went missing immediately after being involved in a high-profile onboard incident.
