More than 700 Indians will participate in the tri-service exercise "Bright Star 2025" in Egypt

The multinational military exercise Bright Star 2025 is set to take place in Egypt from August 28 to September 10. This will be the 19th edition of the long-running drill, and it is expected to be one of the most extensive exercises ever conducted in the Middle East. A total of 43 countries will take part, with 13 nations contributing active military contingents while 30 others will participate as observers. According to the Egyptian Armed Forces, the scale of this year’s event is unprecedented, with over 7,900 troops expected to join, making it one of the largest multinational gatherings of its kind in the region’s recent history.

India will play a prominent role in the exercise, deploying more than 700 personnel from the Armed Forces and the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff. The participation of such a large contingent reflects India’s growing commitment to strengthening international military cooperation and contributing to regional security frameworks. The Indian team will take part in a series of tri-service activities, which include live firing exercises by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. These drills will highlight India’s ability to coordinate joint operations effectively, thereby demonstrating its expanding military capabilities on the global stage.

In addition to live-fire demonstrations, the Indian forces will participate in a Command Post Exercise (CPX), which is designed to focus on integrated planning, coordination, and decision-making in a multinational operational environment. This aspect of the drill is particularly significant, as it enables participants to practice interoperability and joint strategies that would be vital in real-world conflict or humanitarian scenarios. Short training drills will also be conducted, involving all three services of the Indian Armed Forces, and these will be concentrated on aspects of modern warfare tactics and techniques. Furthermore, the event will feature Subject Matter Expert (SME) interactions, where specialists will exchange knowledge on critical areas of contemporary military operations.

Exercise Bright Star has a long history, having been established in 1980 as a bilateral initiative between Egypt and the United States. Over the years, it has expanded into a full-scale multilateral exercise and is now recognized as one of the most significant drills under the responsibility of the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The exercise has consistently served as a valuable platform for strengthening military ties, enhancing cooperation, and improving interoperability among allied and partner nations. By bringing together such a diverse group of countries, Bright Star continues to play an essential role in maintaining regional stability and security.

For India, participation in Bright Star 2025 underlines its emphasis on tri-service synergy and collaboration with friendly foreign forces. It provides an opportunity not only to showcase India’s military capabilities but also to deepen strategic partnerships with nations across different continents. In today’s evolving security landscape, such exercises highlight the growing importance of collective preparedness, joint training, and interoperability in ensuring peace and stability across volatile regions like the Middle East.
