The comeback was a failure: Who is the American reporter who made Zelenskyy's comment about the same-suit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, often seen in his trademark olive or black military-style attire since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, chose a suit for his latest meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. The choice of clothing set the stage for a memorable exchange with Brian Glenn, a conservative reporter from Real America’s Voice who had previously mocked Zelenskyy’s military dress. Glenn, who is in a relationship with Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, had in February criticised Zelenskyy for not wearing formal attire during a tense Oval Office meeting.

At the White House on Monday, Glenn appeared to soften his stance, complimenting Zelenskyy with the remark, “You look fabulous in that suit.” Trump, seizing the opportunity, reminded the room that Glenn had been the one who attacked Zelenskyy earlier over his choice of clothing. Zelenskyy, smiling, quickly delivered his comeback: “I remember him. But you are in the same suit.” The remark, sharp yet humorous, drew laughter across the Oval Office. Glenn followed up by apologising for his earlier comments, a gesture that appeared to close the loop on their previous clash.

Zelenskyy’s insistence on wearing military-style sweatshirts and olive shirts during global engagements has been deliberate. He has explained that it is meant to show solidarity with Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield, projecting an image of resilience and unity with his country’s armed forces. His refusal to adopt suits, even in meetings with world leaders or during his address to the US Congress, became a symbolic extension of Ukraine’s wartime posture. Glenn’s earlier criticism in February, when he accused Zelenskyy of disrespecting the occasion, had escalated tensions during that Oval Office encounter, triggering a sharp exchange where Trump and Vice-President JD Vance pressed Zelenskyy on broader issues of respect and gratitude.

Brian Glenn, at the centre of this suit incident, has established himself as a conservative media figure with strong ties to Trump’s political orbit. Currently the chief White House correspondent for Real America’s Voice, he previously served as programme director at Right Side Broadcasting Network, another pro-Trump outlet. His career has given him exclusive access to the former president, including one-on-one interviews. Glenn has also worked closely with figures from Trump’s legal and political circle, with attorney Christina Bobb frequently appearing on his programmes. Beyond his professional role, Glenn gained further public attention when Marjorie Taylor Greene confirmed their relationship in 2023, describing him as a valuable resource in navigating the media landscape. Trained in mass communication at Lamar University and holding a master’s degree in print journalism from American University, Glenn has built a career deeply embedded in conservative media networks.

The Oval Office moment between Zelenskyy and Glenn thus marked a rare light-hearted reprieve amid otherwise serious discussions. It highlighted the Ukrainian president’s ability to use wit and timing as a diplomatic tool while underscoring how symbolism—whether in attire or in words—continues to play an important role in global politics.
