The Modi administration shielded Adani from the US summons in the bribery case by not serving him: The AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) intensified its criticism of the central government as its Delhi unit chief, Saurabh Bharadwaj, alleged that the Narendra Modi administration had failed to serve a US court summons to business tycoon Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani, even a year after they were sent to India in November 2024.

Bharadwaj, a former Delhi minister, claimed the summons was linked to a USD 256 million bribery case involving allegations that Adani and his associates conspired to pay bribes to Indian government officials. He asserted that this conduct constitutes a criminal offense under US law when foreign investments are solicited from American investors while engaging in corrupt practices.

He accused the Centre of shielding the Adani Group, saying, “The Modi government is claiming it cannot locate Adani,” and alleging that such inaction reflected a pattern of protection for the industrialist.

The AAP leader also pointed to developments earlier in 2025, noting that in May, Adani representatives met US officials to push for dismissal of the charges. Meanwhile, Adani Green had conducted an internal review in April 2025, concluding there were “no non-compliance or irregularities” in its operations.

According to US prosecutors, Adani and seven others—including his nephew—allegedly arranged USD 256 million in bribes to secure government contracts projected to deliver USD 2 billion in profits over two decades and facilitate the development of India’s largest solar power plant.

Reuters and Bloomberg have both reported on the case, which remains a contentious point in political debates over corporate influence and government transparency in India.
