Video: Following Raj Thackeray's vehement speech, MNS employees set fire to a pub in midnight action

Just hours after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray publicly condemned the unchecked rise of illegal bars in Raigad, a group of over a dozen MNS workers stormed the Night Rider bar in Panvel late Saturday night, causing widespread damage. The attack was reportedly triggered by Thackeray’s fiery speech during a rally in Panvel, where he questioned how so many dance bars had come to operate in Raigad—a region with deep historical significance as the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

In the speech, Thackeray had raised concerns about the influence of such establishments on local culture, suggesting that the proliferation of illegal dance bars was a form of social entrapment. His remarks seemed to serve as a catalyst for the incident that unfolded later that night.

Videos from the scene show MNS workers armed with sticks entering the Night Rider bar, smashing liquor bottles, and breaking furniture. According to police, the group caused significant destruction as they railed against what they described as the “illegal and immoral” operation of the establishment beyond permissible hours.

MNS leader Sandip Deshpande defended the act as a “symbolic protest,” stating that the bar’s alleged illegality justified immediate action. He added that the MNS had taken matters into its own hands due to the government's inaction and urged authorities to investigate how such places continued to operate with impunity.

The party’s official social media accounts echoed this sentiment, insisting that the action was not about Marathi versus non-Marathi identity but rather a fight between legality and illegality. They accused the state government of turning a blind eye to unauthorized dance bars and suggested that political protection might be allowing such businesses to flourish.

The incident has sparked fresh debate over law enforcement, vigilantism, and the role of political parties in policing morality. While the bar owners are likely to press charges, the MNS continues to frame the event as a necessary intervention to uphold the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj and preserve Raigad’s cultural sanctity.
