Police in West Bengal’s Birbhum district have made a gruesome discovery, recovering the mutilated remains of a 13-year-old tribal girl who had been missing for nearly three weeks. The decomposed body was found on Monday night in a waterbody beneath a bridge near Kalidanga village. Investigators reported that the body had been cut into three parts before being dumped. The shocking find has led to the arrest of the girl’s school physics teacher, who is now the prime suspect in the case of kidnapping and murder.
The victim, a Class 7 student at Rampurhat Shyampahari Sri Ramakrishna Shikshapeeth, was a resident of Baromeshia village. She was last seen on August 28, when she left home to attend her tuition classes, but never returned. Her worried family filed a missing person complaint at the Rampurhat police station the same day, setting off a search that has now ended in tragedy.
Police identified the accused as Manoj Kumar Pal, a physics teacher at the same school where the victim studied. Based on allegations by the girl’s family that Pal had been stalking her for some time, authorities detained him. Following interrogation, officials said the teacher admitted to killing the child, though investigators noted that the motive for the crime remains uncertain.
According to a police officer, the accused confessed during questioning that he murdered the girl and later disposed of her body by cutting it into three pieces and dumping them in a nearby waterbody. The remains have been sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death and establish the timeline of the crime.
Police have registered a case of murder and kidnapping. Officials stated they would seek custody of Pal after producing him in court to conduct further interrogation, uncover additional evidence, and establish the motive behind the killing.
