Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has once again found himself at the center of a major security scare after receiving a threatening email demanding a ransom of ₹1 crore. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested the accused, identified as Dilip Choudhary, from the 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. According to investigators, Choudhary allegedly introduced himself in the threatening mail as a member of the notorious Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gang, names that have been linked to several high-profile criminal cases in India and abroad. However, police are currently probing the authenticity of his claims and verifying whether he truly has any operational ties with these gangsters or whether the assertion was made to instill fear and add weight to his threats.
This arrest comes against the backdrop of recent violent attacks on Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Café, located in Surrey, Canada. On August 28, the café was brutally targeted when around 25 rounds of bullets were fired at its premises, shattering its glass windows and sparking panic in the locality. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the assault. Soon after the incident, Goldy Dhillon, an active member of the Bishnoi gang who is wanted by both the Punjab Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), claimed responsibility through a social media post. Dhillon, who is believed to be hiding in Germany, already faces multiple cases of extortion and murder in Punjab, making him one of the most sought-after fugitives associated with organized crime.
The August attack was not the first time Sharma’s café had come under fire. On July 10, the restaurant was previously targeted in another firing incident. That time, the responsibility was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a senior operative of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and among India’s most wanted terrorists. Laddi alleged that the attack was carried out as retribution for what he claimed were derogatory remarks made by Kapil Sharma against Nihang Sikhs. These back-to-back firing incidents not only alarmed fans and well-wishers but also highlighted the international reach of criminal and extremist networks targeting prominent Indian figures.
In light of these repeated threats and violent attacks, security agencies have taken serious measures to protect Kapil Sharma. Following the second firing incident in Canada and additional alleged threats linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s network, the Mumbai Police significantly increased security cover for the actor-comedian. The move underscores the severity of the threats he faces and reflects growing concerns about the nexus between extortion rackets, gang rivalries, and cross-border criminal activities. Sharma, who is widely loved as one of India’s leading entertainers, now finds himself under the shadow of organized crime, a situation that highlights the intersection of celebrity, notoriety, and global criminal syndicates.
