Phoenix police have arrested 19-year-old Ryder Corral for vandalising a memorial dedicated to Charlie Kirk outside the headquarters of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) in Phoenix. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, just days after Kirk’s fatal shooting at an event in Utah.
According to authorities, bystanders restrained Corral after he began damaging the memorial, which had been set up near 48th Street and Beverly Road to honour the late conservative activist and TPUSA founder. Police officers, who were already stationed nearby for traffic control, quickly intervened and took Corral into custody.
Online footage captured the moment when Corral attempted to destroy the memorial before being wrestled down by a man in a blue shirt. Witnesses described the scene as tense, but they credited community members for their swift action in protecting the site until law enforcement arrived.
The Phoenix Police Department identified Corral as a local resident and confirmed that he now faces multiple charges, including disorderly conduct and criminal damage. No serious injuries were reported during the altercation.
The vandalised memorial was part of the tributes to Kirk, whose killing on September 10 at Utah Valley University has sent shockwaves through both conservative circles and the wider political landscape. In response, TPUSA has announced a large memorial service to be held on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Gates will open at 8 a.m., with the programme scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Thousands are expected to attend in honour of Kirk’s life and legacy.
The vandalism has been widely condemned online, with calls for respect and dignity toward memorials. Despite the disruption, TPUSA reiterated its commitment to celebrating Kirk’s impact, framing the upcoming service as a moment of unity and resilience amid grief.
