Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, congratulated Siddharth Jain of the INOX Group on becoming the first person from India Inc. to own a Tesla electric vehicle. Jain, Executive Director of the Inox Group, shared his excitement on X, expressing that he had been waiting for this moment since visiting the Tesla Fremont factory in 2017 and calling the delivery a dream come true.
The Model Y, delivered to Jain, is available in India in two variants: the Rs 59.89 lakh Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Rs 67.89 lakh Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD), with the on-road price in Mumbai reaching Rs 69.15 lakh.
Tesla officially entered the Indian market on July 15, 2025, opening its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, serving as an “experience centre” for showcasing Tesla cars. A second showroom later opened in Delhi at Aerocity. The first Tesla delivery in India was made to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, who received a Model Y to promote electric vehicle adoption and raise awareness among youth.
Despite challenges such as high import duties, Tesla’s entry is seen as a significant step toward accelerating electric vehicle adoption in India, promoting sustainable transportation, and fostering the development of EV infrastructure.
