The anchor of Fox & Friends apologizes after receiving backlash for a comment on the homeless population

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade has issued an apology after sparking outrage with a controversial remark about homeless people struggling with mental illness. The backlash stemmed from a Wednesday segment discussing the murder of a Ukrainian woman in North Carolina, where a 34-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history and a diagnosis of schizophrenia has been charged.

During the exchange, Kilmeade’s co-host Lawrence Jones suggested that mentally ill homeless individuals should either accept treatment programs or face jail time. Kilmeade responded with a flippant comment, saying: “Or, involuntary lethal injection – or something. Just kill them.” The remark immediately drew widespread condemnation for its insensitivity and dehumanizing tone.

On Sunday, Kilmeade addressed the controversy directly, admitting that his words were unacceptable. “I apologise for that extremely callous remark,” he said on air. “I am obviously aware that not all mentally ill, homeless people act as the perpetrator did in North Carolina, and that so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion.”

Fox News, which airs the morning show, has not yet issued a formal response to the incident. However, Kilmeade’s apology underscores the mounting pressure on media figures to take accountability for rhetoric that stigmatizes vulnerable communities.
