USIBC chief Atul Keshap said the Modi-Trump discussions are essential for commerce and world stability

US-India Business Council (USIBC) President Atul Keshap has underlined the importance of continued dialogue between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump, particularly at a time of rising trade tensions and global instability. In an interview with ANI, Keshap emphasized that sustained engagement between the two leaders is vital not only for resolving economic frictions but also for strengthening a partnership that has far-reaching implications for peace and prosperity.

He acknowledged ongoing disputes over tariffs but argued that constructive discussions could help both governments preserve and expand a relationship beneficial to their people, businesses, and economies. “It’s always better when we talk,” Keshap said, stressing that USIBC has consistently urged both sides to prioritize dialogue and cooperation despite challenges.

Keshap also drew attention to the volatile global environment, citing Russia’s drone incursions into Poland as a potential trigger for broader conflict in Europe. Against such a backdrop, he argued, stronger US-India collaboration was crucial. He noted India’s unique diplomatic influence over Russia and suggested that a comprehensive negotiation between New Delhi and Washington—encompassing trade issues alongside broader geopolitical concerns—could help foster stability while reflecting India’s rising leadership on the global stage.

His remarks coincided with public affirmations of the partnership by both leaders. Prime Minister Modi recently described the United States as a “natural partner” in a post on X, which Trump echoed on Truth Social, confirming that both nations were engaged in ongoing efforts to address trade barriers. Trump also reaffirmed his view of the India-US relationship as “very special” and expressed eagerness to speak with Modi soon. Modi, in turn, expressed optimism that the talks would unlock the “limitless potential” of the partnership.

Amid strained economic ties, Keshap maintained that regular communication remains the most effective way to balance tariff disputes with the need for broader strategic alignment, ensuring that India and the US can navigate global uncertainty together.
