In a disturbing incident in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, a government school headmaster, Brijendra Verma, assaulted an education officer during an ongoing enquiry against him. Verma, who was already under investigation for allegedly harassing an assistant teacher at his primary school in Mahmudabad, reportedly lost his temper when summoned to the office of Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Akhilesh Pratap Singh.
The enquiry had been called to address complaints of harassment against Verma, including a viral letter circulating among local political circles. During the meeting, both Verma and the assistant teacher were made to face each other as part of the investigation. CCTV footage captured the shocking moment when, after a brief verbal exchange, Verma slammed a file on the table, removed his belt, and repeatedly struck the BSA inside the office. The assault only ceased when office staff intervened and restrained him.
Akhilesh Pratap Singh stated that the headmaster attacked him after it became apparent that others present in the room considered Verma guilty. Following the assault, police were notified, and Verma was arrested. The education department immediately suspended him from his duties pending further action, highlighting the seriousness of the incident and the breach of professional conduct.
This case has raised serious concerns about disciplinary enforcement and safety protocols within government schools, emphasising the need for stricter oversight when dealing with accused staff members during formal enquiries.
