An elderly American tourist died after suffering a suspected heart attack at Bharatpur railway station in Rajasthan on Thursday. The 85-year-old woman, identified as Noel, was part of a group of around 25 foreign tourists who were touring India. The group had travelled from Agra to Bharatpur by bus and was scheduled to continue their journey to Ranthambore by train. However, tragedy struck just as the train reached Bharatpur station. Noel suddenly complained of acute chest pain, lost consciousness, and collapsed before any medical help could arrive.
Fellow travellers and railway staff immediately rushed to assist her, and she was taken to the RBM District Hospital in Bharatpur. Despite the quick response, doctors at the hospital declared her dead on arrival. Preliminary medical findings indicate that the woman may have suffered a cardiac arrest, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination, which is scheduled for Friday.
Confirming the incident, Mukesh Meena, the officer in charge of the police outpost at RBM Hospital, said, “We received information about the death of a foreign woman tourist who had fallen ill at Bharatpur railway station. She was brought to the hospital for treatment, but could not be saved. The railway police have been informed, and all legal formalities are being completed.”
Authorities have notified the woman’s family members in the United States and informed the relevant embassy officials. The rest of the tourist group, who had earlier visited Fatehpur Sikri before heading toward Ranthambore, has been provided assistance by local officials and the tour organisers. The sudden demise of the elderly traveller has cast a shadow of grief over the group’s journey, prompting the local administration to extend all necessary support to ensure a smooth repatriation process.
