A government doctor in Uttar Pradesh has been suspended after he was caught on video making inflammatory remarks against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his administration. The state health department took swift action after the clip went viral, initiating a disciplinary enquiry and attaching the doctor to the Ayodhya divisional office pending further investigation. The case has ignited political controversy, as the remarks were made during a protest led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over alleged negligence at a government hospital.
The suspended officer, identified as Dr. Bhaskar Prasad, was serving as the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the 100-bed Birsinghpur Hospital in Sultanpur district. In the video, Dr. Prasad is heard making a provocative comment that reportedly referenced taking out the “funeral procession” of the Chief Minister and his government. The video spread rapidly across social media platforms, drawing criticism from BJP supporters and senior officials. Within hours, the health department issued a suspension order dated October 26, 2025, citing serious misconduct.
According to the official order, Dr. Prasad’s remarks were deemed “highly inappropriate and objectionable,” constituting a direct violation of Rule 3 of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servant Conduct Rules, 1956, which mandates that public servants maintain integrity, loyalty, and neutrality while discharging their duties. The order also invoked Rule 4(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servant (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1999, allowing for suspension in cases of grave misconduct.
During his suspension, Dr. Prasad has been attached to the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in Ayodhya. He is prohibited from leaving his designated headquarters without prior permission from higher authorities. As per service rules, he will continue to receive a subsistence allowance, but only if he declares that he is not involved in any alternative employment or source of income. The suspension will remain effective until the disciplinary inquiry concludes and final action is determined.
The controversy originated during a two-day protest at Birsinghpur Hospital organized by the Aam Aadmi Party, which aimed to highlight poor infrastructure, lack of medicines, and general administrative apathy at the facility. During the demonstration, Dr. Prasad was seen speaking with protesters and allegedly made the offending remark in that interaction. Shortly after, the video of the exchange went viral, sparking widespread outrage.
Following the uproar, BJP Mandal President Shobhnath Yadav lodged a formal complaint at Jaisinghpur Police Station, leading to an FIR being filed against Dr. Prasad. The case adds to the political tensions between the ruling BJP and opposition parties, as the incident occurred during a protest critical of the government’s healthcare policies.
The state health department, meanwhile, has stated that the suspension was necessary to maintain the neutrality and decorum expected of a public official. A senior official said the department would not tolerate “politically motivated or inflammatory behavior” by anyone in public service.
The episode has also drawn renewed scrutiny toward Birsinghpur Hospital, which locals say has been struggling with long-standing problems such as a shortage of staff, insufficient medical supplies, and unhygienic conditions. Residents from nearby villages have complained that despite repeated assurances, the hospital continues to function in a state of neglect. The AAP’s protest and the subsequent controversy have once again exposed the deteriorating condition of rural healthcare infrastructure in parts of Uttar Pradesh.
As the enquiry proceeds, authorities are expected to review both the doctor’s conduct and the broader circumstances surrounding the protest. While the disciplinary process continues, the incident underscores the growing friction between government employees and political authorities in an increasingly polarized environment.
