A 44-year-old Indian-origin woman working as a teaching assistant in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been arrested after allegedly slashing her husband’s neck during an argument about household chores. The incident, which took place on October 12, reportedly escalated from a domestic disagreement that turned violent. The woman, identified as Chandraprabha Singh, maintains that the injury was accidental and not intentional.
According to reports from WBTV, Singh was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury after she allegedly attacked her husband, Arvind Singh, at their residence on Foxhaven Drive in the Ballantyne neighborhood. Authorities stated that the assault occurred around 10:49 a.m., and by the time officers arrived, the victim had already been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The exact severity of his injuries has not been disclosed.
The arrest warrant indicated that Arvind Singh told 911 dispatchers his wife attacked him because he had failed to clean the house. However, Chandraprabha gave a different version of events, claiming that she accidentally cut his neck while turning around with a knife in her hand as she prepared breakfast.
Following the incident, detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit arrested Singh and took her to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning. After being interviewed, she was transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where formal charges were filed. Police clarified that the altercation occurred off school property and that no students, staff, or educational facilities were involved in any way.
Court documents show that Singh was initially denied bail but later granted release on a $10,000 bond on October 13. She was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and barred from contacting or approaching her husband. During her court appearance, she was also appointed a public defender to represent her. Singh was released from custody on October 14 under strict supervision and continues to be monitored electronically.
At the time of the incident, Singh was employed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) as a teaching assistant for kindergarten through third grade at Endhaven Elementary School in the Ballantyne area. School officials have not commented on her employment status following her arrest, but police confirmed that the matter remains strictly a domestic case with no connection to her professional duties.
