An Indian medical student who was expelled for cheating was discovered dead in Dhaka

Nida Khan, a 19-year-old Indian MBBS student from Jhalawar, Rajasthan, was found dead in her hostel room at Ad-Din Momin Medical College in Dhaka under circumstances that suggest suicide. The tragedy occurred after she was reportedly expelled from the college for allegedly cheating on an examination.

According to Dhaka police, Nida had appeared for an exam on Saturday, after which she was expelled. The next day, at around 4:15 am, authorities were informed about her unresponsive state in the hostel. Upon entry using an alternative key, she was found hanging in her room. A post-mortem was conducted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and the Indian embassy has been notified to assist in repatriating her body to India.

College authorities stated that Nida returned to her room on the night of her expulsion. When she failed to respond to repeated calls from her classmates, they alerted the administration around 2 am, leading to the grim discovery.

The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting urgent assistance in returning Nida’s body to India. AIMSA Vice President Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan highlighted the family’s grief and the urgency of performing her last rites in her homeland.

Nida’s sudden death has left her family devastated and the Indian student community in Dhaka deeply shaken, with authorities and the MEA working to ensure her remains are safely brought back to Rajasthan.
