Bihar is under a flash flood warning following four days of nonstop rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flash flood alert for multiple districts in Bihar today and tomorrow, following four continuous days of heavy rainfall that have severely affected normal life. The alert covers districts including Patna, Bhabua, Arwal, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Saran, Siwan, Araria, Banka, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Jamui, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, Madhubani, Munger, Nawada, West Champaran, East Champaran, Purnia, Saharsa, Samastipur, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, and Vaishali.

In Sasaram, continuous rain from late Friday night until early Saturday morning has submerged the entire city and surrounding areas, creating a flood-like situation. Residential zones, public spaces, and over 100 vehicles, including cars, at Narayan Medical College in Jamuhar, are underwater. Reports indicate widespread collapse of mud houses, severe waterlogging in government offices, hospitals, schools, and roads, leaving local movement heavily restricted.

The Rohtas district administration has issued an alert, urging residents to remain cautious as water levels remain dangerously high. The IMD had already issued a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall over Bihar on Saturday, escalating concerns about flooding in low-lying regions.

Beyond Bihar, the IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in East Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim for the same period. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected over the next two to three days in parts of the Northeastern states, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors, and follow official advisories to ensure safety amid the escalating flood threat.
