The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered more than 5.3 kilograms of suspected heroin from the R S Pura sector in Jammu following a well-coordinated special operation conducted in the early hours of Monday. The seizure was made after the BSF received specific intelligence inputs suggesting that Pakistan-based smugglers were attempting to push narcotics into Indian territory using aerial means. Acting swiftly on the alert, BSF personnel planned and executed a depth ambush operation to intercept the smuggling attempt.
Officials confirmed that during the course of the operation, BSF troops conducted a detailed search near Village Bidipur in the R S Pura area, where they discovered two yellow-coloured packets hidden in agricultural fields. Upon inspection, the packets were found to contain ten smaller packets, collectively weighing approximately 5.300 kilograms. Preliminary analysis indicates that the recovered substance is suspected to be heroin. Investigators believe the consignment was drone-dropped from across the International Border by Pakistani smugglers, a method increasingly used in recent years to bypass border patrols and fencing.
The BSF has launched a comprehensive search of the surrounding area to ensure no additional contraband is left behind or concealed nearby. Local law enforcement authorities were immediately informed and called to the site to initiate legal procedures, including forensic examination and case registration under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The recovered material has been secured and will be sent for laboratory testing to confirm its composition and purity levels.
BSF officials stated that such recoveries underscore the ongoing threat of cross-border smuggling networks operating with advanced technology, including the use of drones for narcotics delivery. They emphasized that the force maintains constant vigilance and continues to adapt its counter-smuggling strategies to neutralize these evolving threats.
In an official statement, the BSF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s borders and preventing the infiltration of drugs, weapons, or other contraband. “Our troops remain alert round the clock to ensure that every attempt by anti-national elements to smuggle narcotics or arms across the International Border is effectively foiled,” the statement read.
The R S Pura sector, which lies close to the Pakistan border, has witnessed several such incidents in the past year, with smugglers using drones to drop consignments deep inside Indian territory. The latest recovery once again highlights the BSF’s proactive intelligence network and quick response capabilities, which continue to play a crucial role in curbing trans-border narcotics trafficking in the Jammu region.
