The Cuttack administration has launched a detailed inquiry into the clashes, seeking to ascertain the root causes and prevent recurrence during the ongoing Durga Puja festivities. Police teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the affected areas and collecting statements from eyewitnesses, procession organizers, and participants to identify instigators and clarify conflicting accounts.
Local residents reported heightened tension in neighborhoods along the immersion routes, with many staying indoors until the situation stabilized. Shops and markets in the vicinity remained closed temporarily, and traffic was diverted to alternative routes to avoid further confrontations.
Authorities emphasized that the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces and rooftop surveillance helped contain the violence and prevent escalation into larger-scale rioting. Security officials noted that timely intervention was crucial in ensuring the safety of festival-goers and minimizing damage to public property.
Meanwhile, community leaders and Puja Samiti organizers appealed for calm and cooperation with the police, stressing the importance of peaceful celebrations. They assured citizens that all necessary precautions were being taken to ensure that the remaining immersion processions proceed smoothly.
The Odisha state government has also directed district authorities to strengthen monitoring along all major immersion routes across Cuttack and surrounding areas. Additional medical teams were placed on standby at hospitals to treat any injuries promptly.
Officials warned that anyone found instigating violence or disrupting public peace during the festivities would face strict legal action, including arrest and prosecution under relevant provisions of law. The police have urged the public to report suspicious activities immediately to maintain a secure environment.
With security measures intensified and coordination between local police and CAPFs, authorities expressed confidence that the remainder of the Durga Puja immersion events would be conducted safely, allowing devotees to celebrate the festival without incident.
