Security forces have intensified counterterrorism operations across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly focusing on the forested belts of Rajouri, Udhampur, and Anantnag. The coordinated crackdown follows the recent Pahalgam attack and is aimed at neutralizing the remnants of terrorist groups believed to be regrouping in these regions. Officials reported that the forces have been maintaining heightened surveillance and increased ground presence to prevent any potential infiltration or regrouping attempts by militants operating in these hilly terrains.
In Rajouri, a brief exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces occurred in the Beeranthub area of Kandi on Tuesday evening. The confrontation prompted the police, army, and CRPF to cordon off the region and initiate a large-scale combing operation. “Exchange of fire took place between terrorists and the SOG team in the Beeranthub area, Police Station Kandi. Joint parties of police, Army, and CRPF have rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area,” confirmed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti. Meanwhile, in the Dharni top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur, the movement of three suspected terrorists was reported, leading to an intensified sweep across nearby forest belts.
Officials indicated that the cordon and search operations have been expanded to neighboring areas to ensure that no terrorists escape the security perimeter. Despite no fresh contact being established since the initial encounter, the forces remain on high alert, continuing to monitor movements and intercept communication signals. Local sources also reported heavy troop deployment and aerial surveillance over the suspected hideouts, suggesting that the forces anticipate a prolonged engagement in the region.
Simultaneously, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a major search operation is underway in the dense forests of Kokernag, particularly in the Ahlan Gadole area. The operation, launched two days ago, follows credible intelligence inputs about a group of terrorists hiding in the region. The area has a history of high terrorist activity and fierce encounters, with previous gunfights in August and September 2023 claiming the lives of several security personnel, including two Army officers and a police officer.
Security agencies describe Ahlan Gadole as an emerging hotspot of terrorist activity in Kashmir due to its challenging terrain and thick vegetation, which provide natural cover for militants. The ongoing operations underscore the forces’ determination to eliminate militant presence and restore peace across Jammu and Kashmir. Officials have reiterated that counterterror operations will continue relentlessly until all threats are neutralized.
